Solar Power is effectively the harnessing of the sun's energy in order to generate electricity
Two main components are required to turn the sun's energy into electricity...
Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells, often shortened to PV. The cells are almost always made from crystalline silicon which reacts to exposure to light. When sunlight hits the PV cells it creates a reaction within the structure of the silicon, which in turn produces an electric current.
Because the electricity generated by a solar panel is DC (direct current) format it has to be converted into AC (alternating current) which is most commonly used in domestic electricity supply. If excess electricity is produced it in can either be fed back to the grid or stored in batteries.
Our friendly and highly experienced team will be very happy to answer any further questions you have about solar panel installation for your home or business.
The idea that we could harness the power of the sun has been around for centuries but it was only towards the middle of the 20th century that solar power started to become a realistic proposition, with the first design being produced by American scientists n the 1930s.
Over time we've developed technologies that make solar panels more and more efficient but you are still likely to need what's called an 'array' of panels to power your home or business. Thankfully because of the advanced equipment we use, we can give you a very accurate forecast of how the amount of electricity an array of solar panels will produce given your; location, available roof space, pitch of the roof, degree of shadow and direction. According to your daily routines we can also assess whether batteries to store excess energy would be good move.
